The Objective of the
micro credit program is to promote more programs to reduce poverty by extending
loans and grants to the poor for the purpose of financing income-generating
activities. In 1996 TT with the support of CIDA initiated its micro credit
program for poor women in slums around Quetta City. After assessing its success
partners like the Asia foundation Pakistan, Grameen trust of Bangladesh and
Australian aid Pakistan also provided financial and technical support to extend
small loan facility to more poor women in other comminutes.
TT's credit program was
initiated to facilitate the poor women and their families. Therefore keeping
this objective TT credit staff do not restrict the use of loans, It is wide
open for the borrowers that how they utilize the loan on their discrete. The income
generation activities run by the borrowers by their own will without any
interference from the TT's staff have been successful.
Since 1996, an amount of
approximately 1,550,00 $ has been distributed among 600 individuals. The rate
of recovery is100% and the make up on the loan is 20%. These are involved in
various income generation activities and trying their best to improve their
health education and social conditions. In1994 the
Government of Balochistan
with the financial assistance of Asian development bank has signed a contract
with TT to provide small loans to small farmers (both men and women). TT has
never experienced any single defaulter yet in loan recovery process. Normally
every effort is made to recover the loan from the group and the family of
borrower and it is always successful.
The important indicator to
the measures the performance of the center includes the attendance of the
members at meetings and over all recovery from the centers. The meetings and

The meeting has become
the golden opportunity of sharing different point of views, of resolving
conflicts, disseminating information on related topics, having lectures from
different NGO's, participating in workshops organized by TT and other NGO's.
As there is no restriction
for the income generation activities, approximately all the borrowers of
Taraqee are able to increase their means of income through several resources.
They sell vegetables, cloths, weave carpets, run a small grocery shop, or sew
cloths.

At present TT is the
only organization in Balochistan, which is providing micro credit facility to
poor women and men at their doorsteps and organizing them to meet their
practical and strategic needs after five years of its establishment. TT has
attained a good reputation not only at local and domestic level but also on
international level as well.
